Abstract:
This volume reprints George Taylor?s memoir of Robert Surtees, the historian and antiquary, with additional material selected and edited by James Raine. Alongside Taylor?s original text and notes are new annotations, unpublished letters, and a wider selection of Surtees?s poetry, intended to offer further insight into his personality, tastes, and friendships. Raine, who knew both Surtees and Taylor personally, contributes from his own recollections and earlier correspondence with Taylor. The result is both a fuller portrait of Surtees and a tribute to the literary and intellectual companionship shared between the two men.
